The Labit team is made up of full-time staff with various levels of expertise and qualifications. We pride ourselves in working hard and we are committed to making every effort possible to create jobs by establishing small businesses. We also have a vast network of consultants and experts (Friends of Labit & Co-LAB) that we often engage to nurture talented entrepreneurs.

Andie Steele-Smith

Non-Executive Chairperson

Andie Steele-Smith has had a successful career in investment banking, corporate turnarounds and start-ups. He has advised, mentored and invested in companies in Europe, the United States, Australia and Africa ranging from telecommunications and technology to healthcare to mining and natural resources, to agriculture and viticulture.

Andie has acted as corporate advisor to a number of highly successful public and private companies including Norton Gold Fields, Gloria Jeans Coffee, RAB Capital, MTN, Tricon / Yum, Dimension Data Southern Skies and Netcare.

Andie is well known for his markedly unusual success in helping transform the youth of some of SA’s most troubled heartlands including Manenberg, Scottsdene, Fisantekraal and Khayelitsha where he works closely in bringing peace and unity amongst the gangs in particular.

Since the late 1990s, Andie has consistently run successful mentoring and entrepreneur-in-residence programs that have helped launch the careers and corporate trajectories of great young CEOs, technologists and serial entrepreneurs. This is one of the key reasons that he was thrilled to accept an invitation to join and chair the LABIT Board.

In addition to his responsibilities at LABIT, Andie has a number of commercial, charitable and board interests in South Africa, the U.S.A., Australia, New Zealand and North Africa.

De Wet Spies

Non-Executive Director

De Wet is passionate about holistic, integrated approaches that lead to the sustainable development of people, organisations and communities. He has lived and worked in various Sub-Saharan Africa countries since 2007, pioneered the start-up of 3 non-profit organisations and served as deputy country director for an international media house in East Africa. He received his MBA from Edinburgh Business School in 2018 and has been involved with Labit since 2019 first as managing director and later as non-executive board member.

De Wet is married to Miemie and they are blessed with four beautiful young daughters. As a family they enjoy the outdoors, camping and sharing interesting meals with friends.

Godfrey Mmagawo

Non-Executive Director

Godfrey is a reconciler by heart and lives to be a bridge builder between people from different racial, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.” He is passionate about coming alongside people and organisations, helping them to thrive in their purpose and calling. He has worked with various non-profit organisations in South Africa and overseas. Besides being on the Labit board, Godfrey is a board member of other organisations that focuses on the wholistic development of people through sport and education.

He is married to Boitumelo and if he is not working or spending time with family, you will find him trail running on a mountain somewhere in Stellenbosch.
